OCAD University – Wayfinding System

BACKGROUND:

OCAD University is one of the most well known art and design educational institutions in Canada. Yet, it's wayfinding system is poorly designed.

PROBLEMS:

Many problems were discovered during the site analysis. It included inconsistency, inappropriate sign placement, and vandalism.

1. SOLUTION TO INCONSISTENCY:

To establish consistency for the system, a set typeface and colour palette was developed to match the school's brand identity.

2. SOLUTION TO INAPPROPRIATE SIGN PLACEMENT

To ensure signs won't be missed, signs are to be placed within the user's sightlines under this new system.

3. SOLUTION TO VANDALISM

While "preventing" vandalism might not be possible. Minimizing the damage is possible by protecting the signs with replaceable material.
